There was a Jacques Cousteau flavour to the decor in Macquarie Group's box as the global investment bank opted for an underwater concept.

'We went with a deep-sea theme this year as we take our influences from Australia, and this one has hallmarks of the Barrier Reef. In keeping with the theme we are giving money to the WWF Hong Kong Hoi Ha Marine Life Centre,' said Giles Heyring, head of equities, Asia.

The 'Davy Jones locker' was resplendent with portholes and tentacles on the ceiling, giving it a 'creature from the deep' feel.

Simon Watkiss, togged out in scuba gear, was the welcoming face at the door. It's not the first time he's played that role. For Macquarie's 2010 box theme of the 'Australian Outback' he appeared as Mick 'Crocodile' Dundee. And in 2011 for 'Tropical Paradise' he wore a shirt so loud it needed a volume control.

But this year. Watkiss did well not to trip over his huge flippers, while quipping: 'I'm not flipping out.'
