Marc Jacobs taps the Roaring Twenties for spring collection, turning models into material girls

American fashion brand Marc Jacobs' spring-summer collection is a trip back to the 1920s with a twist.

The designs feature classic checks and drop-waist cuts, touched up with innovative materials such as translucent cellophane organza and sheen lame embroidery.

Model Lisa Selesner, who showcased the designs at a preview on Wednesday at The Foreign Correspondents' Club in Central, said she had always been a fan of the brand.

'I especially love their handbags - they are definitely one of his fortes. And I'm from New York myself, so I always support my New Yorker designers,' Selesner said.

'I have to say [my favourite piece] is one of their first 'it' bags, the Stam, which was named after the supermodel Jessica Stam. It's probably five years ago and I think that was when [Jacobs] really came out and proved to himself that 'Yes, I worked for Louis Vuitton, but I also have my own brand and this is my 'it' bag for my brand.''

Other models, including Ana Rivera, Coco Chiang and Mikki Yao, had outfits - such as a multi-layer retro fringe skirt with metallic finish, and a skirt with see-through plastic drapings - paired with the latest shoe designs, which Selesner had her eyes on.

'For this season, what I'm really digging are these shoes. What's great about them is that [they make you look] like a sexy secretary.

'It looks conservative, but then when you turn it to the side, you have this amazing heel that adds sex appeal,' she said.

'This is very much my style - I don't want to be overtly sexy. So I enjoy having something that I feel comfortable and secure in, but still with a little bit of spice.'
