Sheer, the multi-label lingerie boutique that opened in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong in December, is something of a hidden gem - tucked away on the fourth floor of a commercial building. And shoppers are usually happy to make the discovery.

'A bra can make or break an outfit,' founder Lisa Cheng said at the in-store spring-summer collection preview on Wednesday.

The former New Yorker was inspired to open a lingerie shop in Hong Kong when she couldn't find the perfect fit for herself after moving here two years ago.

'I tried to find a simple, basic, strapless bra for a dress, but I looked everywhere and failed,' she said. 'I didn't want to compromise, even though the bras weren't too expensive and I was desperate.'

Cheng was also upset about the inexperienced sales staff she encountered. 'I asked what the difference was between two sets, and they were like, 'The price is different',' she said.

So the former marketing executive and product developer decided to open her own boutique and pass on her knowledge about lingerie. The shop stocks more than 20 brands, including Chantelle, Wundervoll and The Little Bra Company.

Cheng will be hosting a series of lingerie-related workshops - over bubbly and canapes - from April 13. The theme of the first session will be finding the perfect fit. For bookings and inquiries, send an e-mail to
