Alexa spins it for the Carven crowd on opening night

One of the hottest Parisian brands, Carven, hosted a soiree to celebrate its landmark store opening on Wednesday in Sheung Wan's The Space. The venue was packed with fashion enthusiasts, despite the event being on a weekday.

The biggest lures for the party regulars, beyond the clothes on the racks, were the brand's creative director, Guillaume Henry, and London's 'it' girl Alexa Chung, who scooped last year's style award at the British Fashion Awards. Chung, in town for the second time, got behind the DJ deck and span for the party alongside the British drummer-actress Tennessee Thomas and DJ Miles Slater.

The ever-cool Chung showed her playful side and danced away behind the deck. Instead of joining her geeky moves, the crowd was too busy taking snapshots of her with their camera-phones.

Many of the local socialites and celebrities, such as Wyman Wong Wai-man, Hilary Tsui Ho-ying and Charlene Choi Cheuk-yin, were among those wanting a photo with Chung.

The fashion pack were all dressed to the nines for the party: many turned up in Carven's colourful prints and open-back dresses from the spring-summer collection.

Those who didn't wear Carven were also entertained by a special iPad app, Photobooth, which allowed them to insert images of their own faces on the latest Carven looks.

The party got busy fashionably late, around 10 o'clock, and continued into the early hours.
