Fresh off her acclaimed performance in You Are the Apple of My Eye, Michelle Chen Yan-hsi takes centre stage as an immature girl in the Taiwanese rom-com The Soul of Bread.

Mr Chiu (Liao Chun) owns a bakery in a small town near Kaohsiung, in Taiwan. Business has steadily declined over the years. His son is not interested in taking over the family business, and Mr Chiu himself devotes most of his time to his rock band.

His daughter Ping (Chen) is dating Gao-bing (Chen Han-dian), one of the bakers. They've grown up together and have been dating for some time. She's interested in seeing the world before settling down; he's more traditional and prefers stability.

One day Bread (Anthony Neely), a young French-Taiwanese baker, arrives in town. Almost instantly he falls for Ping and convinces Mr Chiu to take him on as an apprentice.

Soon Bread's pastries are the delight of the town and gradually Ping, who's always wanted to explore France, begins to let him into her heart.

His charm and foreign appeal may be too much for Gao-bing to beat. It will take a final bakedown between Gao-bing and Bread to help Ping determine where her heart - and soul - lies.
