Teresa O and Darren Tsang met at the University of Hong Kong, where Darren was a business student and Teresa was majoring in Chinese. They crossed paths on a Putonghua course.

Trainee solicitor Teresa, 28, and Darren, 30, an assistant manager with an accountancy firm, wed on November 5 at the Aberdeen Marina Club, celebrating with 300 guests.

'She was the beautiful and cheerful girl I had been looking for,' Darren said of their first encounter. 'I was also very impressed by her talent for languages.'

Teresa thought Darren was a bit quiet, but intelligent and gentle. Although he may have appeared timid, Darren immediately planned to make a move on Teresa.

'I called her almost every day. I accompanied her to study in the library and sometimes we had lunch together,' he said.

They became close friends, but it wasn't until Darren graduated that he asked Teresa if she would date him.

The couple discussed it over a six-hour phone call until Teresa eventually agreed to give it a try. On their first real date, Teresa was too shy to even look into Darren's eyes.

They had been dating for almost seven years before Darren proposed, in September 2009. He took Teresa to one of their favourite restaurants, having prepared roses and an engagement ring in advance.

After the dessert was served, the restaurant staff played their song, Close to You by The Carpenters. As well as the roses, Darren had also arranged for a cake with the line 'Will you marry me?' written on it. When the staff brought it to their table, he got down on one knee and asked Teresa to marry him. Teresa said 'yes' instantly.

'Teresa is sweet and very responsible. I feel very comfortable having her around. She's like my angel,' he said.

'Darren always gives me this sense of security. He's the most hard-working and responsible person I know,' Teresa said.

The couple had pre-wedding photos done in Prague then travelled in the South Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. They honeymooned on Koh Samui, Thailand, and plan to visit Kenya.
