A bad week for ...

Jeremy Lin

The New York Knicks basketball star is likely to be out of action for about six weeks as he recovers from surgery on a damaged left knee. His downtime is also bad news for the makers of Jeremy Lin basketball jerseys, who reported a drop in demand. Customs officers also reported a drop in fake jerseys seized at Hong Kong International Airport. 'Maybe we need to wait for his next round of winning games,' one officer was quoted as saying.

Viktor Bout

The arms dealer convicted by a New York jury of conspiracy for plotting to sell weapons to a Colombian terrorist group was sentenced to 25 years' jail. A former officer in the Soviet Union, Bout, 45, was also sentenced to five years' probation and ordered to forfeit US$15 million, after his arrest in Bangkok in 2008 in a sting operation set up by the US Drug Enforcement Administration.

Adam Sandler

The Hollywood actor swept the annual Razzies, a spoof of the Oscars, winning a record-breaking 10 awards for the worst film and performances of last year for his movie Jack and Jill. The Golden Raspberry Foundation said the cross-dressing comedy, in which Sandler played both the male and female lead roles, was the first film in the Razzies' 32 years to sweep all 10 categories. Sandler was also voted worst actor and worst actress.
