A new wave of upscale boutique resorts is emerging in Asia for exclusive meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) events. Typically located in picturesque locations away from cities, these private holiday resorts are able to offer MICE planners a high degree of privacy and exclusivity for their events, together with personal services and tailor-made facilities.

Despite the uncertainly over the world economy and cautious outlook, the tourism offices of Hong Kong and Singapore continue to see growth in MICE visitors. Both cities are focusing promotional campaigns on the convention and exhibition sectors.

Elsewhere, as companies curb spending on incentive travel, destination management companies in China say there are plenty of mainland locations that offer value for money.
