Recette de Champagne Palmiers 
 Relatively thin, these biscuits are in neatly cut, uniform shapes. The pastry is folded quite tightly, resulting in a dense and firm biscuit. They don't crumble when bitten. They are a pretty, light golden colour, and have a balanced sweetness but, unfortunately, lack that delicious buttery flavour.

 LU Palmito L'Original 
 These rustic-looking curls have a sweet, caramel-like glaze, which keeps them crispy. Their golden hue adds to the appeal, and the thickness (around 8mm) gives them substance and a sufficient number of layers to make for a serious crunch. Aside from the caramelised sugar, this cookie has little flavour, but it's acceptable for the price.

 Gancetti 
 Roughly double the size of the other cookies sampled, these have much larger air pockets between the layers, making them seem like an inflated version of a palmier. The biscuits were pale and finished with a sprinkle of granulated sugar, most of which fell off. The taste was bland, and the lack of crispness made it a boring eating experience.

 Star's Taste Palmier Puff  These palmiers do not disappoint. They are the only ones that contain real butter, making a world of difference. Add together the fragrance of the butter, the delicate crispness of the uncountable layers of pastry, and the deep caramel flavour of the caramelised sugar and you have a clear winner.

First Choice Butterfly Pastry 
 These cookies have loosely packed but sturdy layers, so biting into them is quite enjoyable. The flavour, however, is a let-down. They taste like a failed attempt to synthetically create a flavour that emulates the taste of butter. That taste was pervasive and hard to get rid of. The unconvincing paleness should have been a warning.
