Puppy diaper company hopes to clean up at fair

For busy animal lovers they could be just the thing - puppy diapers and organic toiletries for pets.

These are among the products on show at the annual Hong Kong Houseware Fair, which opened yesterday at the Convention and Exhibition Centre.

'It's just like taking care of babies,' said Michelle Xu, of the Fujian Putian Licheng Paper Company, one of more than 50 exhibitors in the fair's pet supplies showcase.

'We cannot be with the puppies for 24 hours a day to take care of them so we need the diapers.'

She said the company developed the diapers to provide pet owners with a way of preventing accidents before their beloved animals had learned where and when to do their 'business'.

Hong Kong manufacturer Lok Ko Far East Company is showing a new range of organic toiletries including shampoo and conditioner for cats and dogs of different ages, hair length and colours as well as skin types.

Project manager Nicholas Chan said Lok Ko had invested more than HK$1 million and spent more than five years in co-operation with an Australian company on developing the organic formulas, ensuring that they passed clinical trials and did not act as a skin irritant.

The series also features sprays that can neutralise pets' odour and brighten their coats.
