Pan-democrats put back meeting with Leung

Pan-democrat lawmakers have rescheduled a meeting with chief executive-elect Leung Chun-ying to April 30, said Emily Lau Wai-hing, vice-chairwoman of the Democratic Party. On the agenda will be universal suffrage, national security legislation, restructuring of civil service bureaus and the transition to a new administration. A one-hour meeting had been scheduled tomorrow, but many lawmakers could not attend and demanded a longer meeting. The talks next week will last two hours.

Woman robbed of cash by knife-wielding pair

A 25-year-old Western woman was robbed at knifepoint by two foreign-looking men at 3am yesterday on Queen's Road Central in Sheung Wan. The two men, both around 1.7 metres tall, robbed the woman of cash and are being sought by police. No arrests had been made last night.

Taxi driver and passenger arrested after brawl

A dispute over where to drop off a taxi passenger led to a brawl between the passenger and driver in Yau Ma Tei. Both were arrested after the clash in Hau Cheung Street. The driver, 31, and his 29-year-old passenger suffered injuries during the incident and were treated at Kwong Wah Hospital.

Funded university hostel places to be increased

Government-funded hostel places for universities will increase by 6,600 this year from last. The University Grants Committee said the shortage of student hostel places is so severe at Hong Kong Baptist University that there will be a shortfall of 1,300 places in the 2014/15 academic year. The grants committee, which is responsible for advising the government on higher education funding, said it will help universities build student hostels by lobbying for land and funding.

Third psychiatric patient shows virus symptoms

Another male patient at the Siu Lam pyschiatric hospital in Tuen Mun has symptoms of respiratory infection, doctors said. Two other patients have a respiratory virus that can cause pneumonia.
