Opened in May last year, private dining venue Casa (www.casa-acts.hk) is located at 8 Rednaxela Terrace in Mid-Levels. The venue is a bit hidden, but its homely ambience - complete with a dark wood table, which features flickering candles atop candelabras by Buccellati and paired with chairs each with a unique design - soothes away the walk and search.

Next month it is launching a new menu titled 'A Taste of Spring'. Designed by chef Jaime Young, the six-course menu features heavier dishes such as stuffed morel mushrooms with sauteed veal loin and spring lamb leg with baby artichokes cleverly spaced by a chilled dish - seafood terrine of salmon, lobster and prawns topped with caviar - and a soupe au pistou (fresh vegetable soup made with seasonal ingredients) to freshen up guests' palates.

'I believe that when you cook, it's all about the ingredients and their relation to the seasons. For me, spring represents a new beginning, and I am inspired by re-evaluating classical dishes from my travels around the world, past experiences, memories and the markets' plentiful bounty,' Young (pictured) said.

Young said the prawn ball dish 'is a play on the classic meatball when I was working in Italy'. The ball was initially made with tuna, but using fresh prawn from the market one day he found it juicier and bouncier. But the tomato pasta on the side left much to be desired.

The dishes came at a leisurely pace - perhaps to give guests more time to talk or to enjoy the entertainment facilities, which include a 50-inch LCD monitor, a Nintendo Wii and (although it looks more like decoration than anything), a bookshelf of mixed genre books.
