Wallace Chan shows dazzling collection ahead of Paris exhibit
Wallace Chan will participate in the prestigious Biennale des Antiquaires at Paris' Grand Palais in September as the first and only Asian and Chinese jeweller.
Chan hosted a cocktail party in the Mandarin Oriental for his local fans on Wednesday evening, showcasing some of the masterpieces he plans to display at the biennale. The pieces, some unveiled for the first time, were worth up to HK$400 million.
About 200 VIP guests turned out for the event, including Arnaud Barthelemy, consul general of France in Hong Kong and Macau, and socialite Lynn Hsieh, who wore a 40-carat sapphire ring by Chan.
Taiwanese model Patina Lin and Mikki Yao from Hong Kong walked down the catwalk wearing jewellery worth millions.
Lin said the crown jewel in her personal collection was her three-carat diamond engagement ring. The model said she loved this particular piece despite its size, much as she loved higher-carat, luxurious jewellery.
Yao, meanwhile, sported a cicada brooch of imperial jadeite and a 19-carat yellow diamond ring. Lin wore a crystal bangle and a necklace featuring a 379.21-carat aquamarine stone.
Chan, a master jeweller who has been in the trade for over three decades, has made a name for himself among global collectors, museums and galleries for his Zen-inspired craftsmanship and expertise in cutting gemstones.
