Fans of AC/DC may be interested to hear that the band's wines are now available here. The wines are made in collaboration with winery Warburn Estate and are named after their hits - Hell's Bells Sauvignon Blanc, Highway to Hell Cabernet Sauvignon and Back in Black Shiraz. Kiss, Madonna, Cliff Richard and Slayer are other artists with their own brands.
Some of the celebrity wineries make high-quality wines and can stand on their own even without the support of famous owners. A few of those to be found in Hong Kong are:
- Francis Ford Coppola Winery is owned by the Oscar-winning director best known for The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. Coppola makes a wide range of wines from everyday drinking to super premium. One range is named Sofia, for his daughter, also a critically acclaimed director of films such as Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette.
- Wine critic Robert Parker is a joint owner of the Beaux Freres winery in Oregon. The region is famed for its Burgundian style pinot noir. The wines are not reviewed in Parker's Wine Advocate.
- Sam Neill, with starring roles in films such as The Hunt for Red October and Jurassic Park, has established the Two Paddocks winery in Central Otago, in his native New Zealand. The main grape varieties grown are riesling and pinot noir offering quality and value for money.
Neill says: 'I enjoy being a winemaker of sorts, even if my choice of wine means cultivating a very tricky and elusive grape.'
