Authorities in Democratic Republic of Congo’s eastern city of Goma assumed gradual control of the mining hub on Sunday after a rebel pullout, but tensions were running high with clashes on Rwanda’s border.

Rebels widely believed to be backed by Rwanda claimed control of Goma in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday, walking through the frontier city of one million people past UN peacekeepers who did nothing to stop them.
