Jake's View | Hong Kong logistics sector doesn't need own ministry, despite whinge by lobbyists
Nor can it justify being granted big tracts of land and thousands of imported workers, as suggested in British Chamber of Commerce pitch

"The cargo-centricity and largely international outlook of the logistics, ports and air freight sectors cannot be adequately supported under the current Transport & Housing Bureau (THB) structure with the THB's primary portfolio of public housing and mass transportation focusing on our local people, their livelihoods and community-centric issues."
And therefore, says the British commercial chamber to the chief executive in this gimme pitch - "Hong Kong as a regional distribution centre" - we want our own ministry for the logistics industry and, oh yes, a whole lot of other things too.
These include big chunks of land for new warehouses plus thousands of cheap migrant workers. The paper claims a labour shortfall of 4,000 to 5,000 jobs at the airport alone, according to a report we published on Saturday - "HK urged to shore up trade and logistics industries".
