Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back in Hong Kong next month but he won’t be making movies. Stockbroker CLSA has invited him to speak to investors at its investor forum.
Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back in Hong Kong next month but he won’t be making movies. Stockbroker CLSA has invited him to speak to investors at its investor forum.
He’ll be discussing his extraordinary life, which has taken him from Austrian emigrant to the 38th governor of California, at a lunch with investors. The spot has been a feature of the forum for some years and previous celebrities have included David Beckham, Mike Tyson, George Clooney, Bill Clinton, Sarah Palin, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Lee Kuan Yew.
Soon after moving to the US, Schwarzenegger was crowned Mr Universe at the age of 21. By his mid-30s he was a millionaire from his businesses including real estate, landscaping and bodybuilding. He was also the winner of a Golden Globe Award for his debut as a dramatic actor in Stay Hungry.
Schwarzenegger, who previously visited Hong Kong in 1998 and 2005, has the distinction of being the only actor to be named in both categories of the American Film Institute’s “Hundred Years of Heroes and Villains” for roles he played in the Terminator series. Other memorable characters include roles in Commando, Predator, Twins, Total Recall, True Lies, Eraser, Collateral Damage and a cameo in Sylvester Stallone’s homage to action films The Expendables and an expanded role in The Expendables 2, among others.
To date, his films have grossed more than US$3 billion worldwide. He was elected governor of California in 2003. He is now back in Hollywood making movies, having published his autobiography Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story last year.
This year’s investor forum, which runs from September 15 to 19, is the company’s 21st. Having started in 1994 it is now a firm fixture in the Hong Kong conference calendar.
CLSA says it expects some 1,500 institutional investors from 30 countries and more than 300 senior executive from 200 listed companies to attend.
