Swire Properties says retail sales at the Pacific Place shopping mall dropped 6 per cent last year as foot traffic was hit by the Occupy Central protest.

Retail director Alvin Kong said the fall was mainly due to the impact of the protest in the fourth quarter.

"Sales were affected by the impact of vehicle flows as transportation became more inconvenient for shoppers," Kong said after the company's lion dance ceremony yesterday to mark the beginning of the year of the goat. "But overall sales have returned to normal."

Sales at its Cityplaza mall in Taikoo Shing eased 0.4 per cent last year due to extensive renovations.

"The makeover at Cityplaza will be completed soon," Kong said. "More new brands will be added."

Cityplaza's HK$100 million facelift, which began early last year, is designed to bring in more children's wear and cosmetic brands.
