NewChinese shares close sharply lower as Shanghai sinks over 6 per cent

Shanghai and Shenzhen equities were hit by a late selling spree to finish Tuesday over 6 per cent lower, but Hong Kong’s losses were far more modest late in the session.

The Shanghai Composite Index fell away steeply at the end to close on 3,748.16, down 6.15 per cent or 245.51 points. The CSI300 dropped to 3,825.41, down 6.19 per cent or 252.46 points.

The Shenzhen Composite closed on 2,174.42, down 6.58 per cent or 153.07 points. The ChiNext went to 2,504.17, down 6.08 per cent or 162.12 points.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index slid to 23,522.20, down 1.23 per cent or 292.45 points. The H-shares index drops to 10,753.94, down 1.90 per cent or 208.30 points.
