Chart of the day: Thailand stocks lead retreat

A week is a long time in markets - and that is all the time it took for Thailand's benchmark stock index to sink back to July's starting point after it chalked up its year high at 1,550 points on the previous Friday.

A week is a long time in markets - and that is all the time it took for Thailand's benchmark stock index to sink back to July's starting point after it chalked up its year high at 1,550 points on the previous Friday. A raft of resistance levels between 1,500 and 1,650 points, which were the key highs in 1994, 1995 and 2013, clustered around a small broadening top chart pattern warned of an impending drop to the 50-day moving average. Expect a touch of the trendline support just below that before a fall to a second target at the 200-day moving average. That would be a 50 per cent retracement of this year's 28 per cent rally in the index.
