Traces of Cultural Revolution crimes in anti-Japanese violence

3-MIN READ3-MIN
Hong Kong-based senior commentator with Phoenix TV Peter Qiu on the violent anti-Japanese riots targetting Chinese businesses and consumers throughout the mainland this weekend:

Thirty-six years on since the end of our collective catastrophe, we as a people have yet to do any serious reflection, which is something unbelievable. And now this is the basis on which our country is rising.

If you want to argue that we couldn't have seen the consequences of that at the time, well, now, amid this wave of anti-Japan sentiment, as so much Cultural Revolution-style brutality manifests, we might just get some insight right up close. If we don't learn from the Cultural Revolution, these kinds of things will just grow more intense.

I hope history proves me wrong.
