Tang Hui, the woman sentenced last year to 1.5 years of re-education for labour after spending more than five years in pursuit of justice for her young daughter, whose multiple rapes and forced prostitution eventually brought the seven held responsible two death and four life sentences and one sentence of fifteen years, is back in the news.

Following the August 10 reversal, spurred by widespread public and media outrage, of her August 3 sentence in Hunan province last year, Tang was brought to the People's Supreme Court in Beijing on December 25 to make statements in death penalty review proceedings for her daughter's rapists.

Yesterday, Tang received notice from the re-education for labour committee in Yongzhou, Hunan, that her application for state compensation has been rejected.

Tang was previously awarded 200,000 yuan (HK$249,317) in compensation from those found guilty by the Yongzhou Intermediate People's Court in March 2010, a decision upheld by the provincial Supreme People's Court in February 2012.

Now, according to this report today in the Beijing News, Tang is back in Changsha to petition the Hunan government to clear her name by making public the evidence used to convict her last year, and to allow her to meet those who involved in the investigation into her 11-year-old daughter's hundred-plus rapes.

Tang says she never met the investigators nor ever consulted regarding any evidence collected.
