Just weeks after its momentous launch of the iPhone 5, Apple is back with what is expected to be another hot gadget - a "mini" version of its market-leading iPad tablet. Apple sent out invitations for an event in San Jose, California, keeping details under wraps as it normally does, saying only: "We've got a little more to show you." Blogs that closely monitor Apple say the new tablet could be priced from US$249 to US$399, which could put pressure on rivals such as the Amazon Kindle Fire.

 

The city's first gay lawmaker joins Hong Kong's annual pride march, celebrating gay and lesbian culture. People Power's Raymond Chan Chi-chuen, a DJ better known as "Slow Beat", came out shortly after being elected last month and the former disc jockey has been named the "rainbow ambassador" for the parade, which starts at 2.30pm in Causeway Bay and is expected to attract more than 1,000 marchers.

 

The Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs in Beijing launches this year's air quality transparency index. The index was introduced by the institute and Renmin University's law school last year to gauge the availability of access to environmental information and to compare the transparency of air quality information in 20 mainland cities and 10 others around the world, including Hong Kong.

Actress Lindsay Lohan is due in a New York court to face allegations that she clipped a pedestrian with her car and failed to stop. The 26-year-old star was arrested after leaving a nightclub. Police said no alcohol was involved. Lohan remains on informal probation for shoplifting a necklace.
