Shenzhen food and entertainment outlets are trying to attract customers from across the border by allowing them to pay in Hong Kong dollars at an exchange rate of 1 yuan to HK$1, despite the current market level of less than 0.8 yuan to the Hong Kong dollar. A big sauna parlour on Chun Feng Road, which offered the favourable rate, was packed with customers, many from Hong Kong. Some Chinese restaurants on Le Yuan Road gave Hongkongers a 20 per cent discount throughout the day.
Veteran Hong Kong singer Jenny Tseng, 59, better known as Yan Nei, revealed that the father of her 25-year-old daughter was Alexander Fu Sheng, a Hong Kong actor killed in a car accident 29 years ago. Tseng said Fu had had his semen frozen after the couple found his sperm was incompatible with her eggs, causing her to suffer four miscarriages. Tseng said she underwent artificial insemination and gave birth to daughter Melody.
