Mitt Romney

Republican Party candidate for the US presidential election 2012. Romney was born in 1947 and is a Mormon. He gained popularity for successfully organising the US$100 million surplus 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, which helped him win the position of Massachusetts governor from 2003-2007. After losing to John McCain in 2008, Romney came back to win as Republican nominee in 2012 and faces Barack Obama in November elections with running mate Paul Ryan.

His campaign team had planned fireworks, and media reports said he had already written a 1,118-word victory speech. Then Romney went and lost. Wife Ann was in tears and the US presidential candidate himself was said to be shell-shocked as he went to break the news to Republican supporters gathered at a Boston hotel.


DNA Galleria retailers

As Christmas decorations go up in stores and as buying a coffee suddenly seems like walking into Santa's grotto, 69 tenants of the city's DNA Galleria in Tsim Sha Tsui are not feeling the cheer. They were ordered out by December 5 after the mall changed owners.


Lung Mei beach wildlife

Starfish and sea urchins were scooped out of the water, other creatures were dug out of the sand: forget builders with bulldozers, children with buckets and spades are now a threat to Lung Mei's marine life. Environmentalists' campaign against an artificial beach on the site has ironically built up the hype and turned it into a family attraction. Protesters have mounted an "ecological guard".
