The reason for the Scot's rage was the bizarre sending off of his winger Nani. United, who had been up 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate, ended up conceding two second-half goals to crash out of the competition.

The Brazilian tycoon lost a staggering US$2 million per hour - for a full 12 months - as his net wealth fell to US$10.6 billion, according to the latest Forbes rich list. A year earlier, he was the world's seventh richest man but now plunged to No100 after he saw sharp declines in the shares of companies in which he is a stakeholder.

The former health minister was a relatively popular member of the government, but created controversy when he took over the leadership of the Equal Opportunities Commission. He was accused of having failed to show a commitment to human rights while in office and also drew flak for failing to come out in favour of legislation against discrimination on the ground of sexual orientation.
