The perennially scarlet-faced Manchester United manager, never far from apoplexy, had to abandon the post-match press conference after his side crashed out of the Champions League in the last 16. The reason for the Scot's rage was the bizarre sending off of his winger Nani. United, who had been up 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate, ended up conceding two second-half goals to crash out of the competition.

The Brazilian tycoon lost a staggering US$2 million per hour - for a full 12 months - as his net wealth fell to US$10.6 billion, according to the latest rich list. A year earlier, he was the world's seventh richest man but now plunged to No100 after he saw sharp declines in the shares of companies in which he is a stakeholder.

The former health minister was a relatively popular member of the government, but created controversy when he took over the leadership of the Equal Opportunities Commission. He was accused of having failed to show a commitment to human rights while in office and also drew flak for failing to come out in favour of legislation against discrimination on the ground of sexual orientation.
