Wong Kar-wai

The Hong Kong film director was awarded France's highest cultural honour. The man behind In The Mood for Love, Chungking Express and the recent martial arts hit The Grandmaster was given the Order of Arts and Letters by visiting French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.

Willie Wilkins

The 90-year-old US military veteran was reunited with the dog tag he lost on a battlefield in France 69 years ago. The silver identification tag, which slipped off while Wilkins was carrying out the grim task of identifying bodies during the second world war, turned up in a garden in Istres and eventually found its way back to Wilkins when its picture was posted on a US military forum.

The Everton manager landed arguably the biggest job in world soccer. He will take over at Manchester United after veteran boss Alex Ferguson announced his retirement. Moyes will struggle to match his fellow Glaswegian's unparalleled level of success, which saw United pick up 13 league titles and two Champions League titles.
