The wife of billionaire media tycoon Rupert Murdoch was hit with a divorce petition. The couple, who met at a Hong Kong cocktail party when Deng was working for Murdoch's Star TV, may struggle to match the US$1 billion payout Murdoch paid his second wife Anna Torv due to a prenuptial agreement she is thought to have signed.

The former Australian minister found himself at the centre of scorn and condemnation after a menu for a dinner fundraiser for the Liberal National Party candidate was revealed to contain crude and vulgar references to Labor Party members, including Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Brough, who is a candidate in September's national elections, said he had not seen the menu offering "Julia Gillard Kentucky Fried Quail" that used derogatory remarks about her breasts, thighs and genitalia.

The racing trainer was forced to withdraw eight horses from the holiday meeting at Sha Tin after they and four runners from earlier races tested positive for prohibited substance, zilpaterol. The result of contaminated feed, it spread, with scores of horses in the city's stables thought to have been affected.
