Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales hits Hong Kong as the city hosts the Wikimania conference for the first time. The annual event, which brings together almost 1,000 editors, contributors, programmers and users of the free online encyclopedia and 12 other knowledge-sharing sites run by the Wikimedia Foundation, takes place at Polytechnic University until Sunday. Registration for the event costs HK$1,000 for the general public, and HK$700 for members of the Wikimedia community.

Officials from the National Health and Family Planning Commission are expected to be asked to clarify the government's stance on the future of the one-child policy at the body's regular monthly press briefing. The commission has attempted to damp down expectations for a relaxation of the one-child policy, after a policy paper and media reports excited hopes for change.
