First of its kind show set to make an impression

The First International Hong Kong China Tattoo Convention opens at InnoCentre, Kowloon Tong, featuring 40 leading local and overseas tattooists. Besides displays of tattoos, the event will feature performances by hip hop and metal bands, graffiti and street art, tattoo equipment displays, and live traditional Asian wood carving. "Our goal is to create a tattoo event for Hong Kong which can become an annual event and help put Hong Kong tattooing on the world map," said organiser Gabe Shum Long-wai of Freedom Tattoo.

 

Autumn art show features unseen works

The Asia Contemporary Art Show opens today at the JW Marriott Hotel, featuring 60 artists and more than 2,000 artworks represented by 73 galleries around the world. Most of the works on display - including original paintings, limited editions, sculpture and photography - have not been seen in Hong Kong before. The event is held in Hong Kong every May and October and was founded by collector and gallery owner Mark Saunderson and business partner Douwe Cramer. Separately, the Fine Art Asia 2013 show opens Friday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

 

A long time between Miss Universe pageants

Myanmar will stage the Miss Myanmar Universe pageant at the National Theatre in Yangon today to choose the finalist among a field of hopefuls to represent the country in the Miss Universe contest to be held in Moscow in November. The last Burmese girl to represent the country in Miss Universe was actress Myint Myint Khin in 1961. Separately, Ford Motor Co will officially announce its first dealership facility in Yangon, a partnership with Capital Automotive, a move made possible after Washington eased economic sanctions on Myanmar.

 

Ex-graft buster back in Legco hot seat

The Legco Select Committee will summon former ICAC chief Timothy Tong Hin-ming back for another hearing on alleged overspending by the graft busting body under his watch. When Tong appeared before Legco late last month he admitted to mistakes but insisted he was honest. A Legco report on the matter is planned for November. Separately, the Legco Bills Committee will discuss the Stamp Duty bill which would see foreign and corporate property buyers pay an extra 15 per cent tax on top of the existing stamp duty.

 

Golfing legend returns for one more PGA

South African golfing legend Nick Price will captain the international team in the PGA Tour President's Cup at Muirfield Village, the course Jack Nicklaus built in Dublin, Ohio. "This has been a moment that I've been waiting for an awful long time," said Price, who won three major titles and claimed 15 PGA wins during his career. The international team, which has scored only one victory in nine attempts, will go up against the Americans led by Fred Couples, who returns as US captain for the third time. Greg Norman led the internationals the last two times.
