The actor and singer topped a list of the celebrities local children most want to model their lives on. Some 722 pupils aged from six to 18 were interviewed for a survey conducted by non-profit group the Hong Kong Institute of Family Education and Sino Group-owned Tuen Mun Town Plaza. Almost 30 per cent of them said they wanted to work hard to become like Lau, who is widely respected in the city as a hard-working star.
The premier announced that China had reached an agreement to jointly build a railway between Hungary and Serbia. Li hailed the project as a landmark in co-operation between China and central and eastern European countries. The three nations would set up working groups immediately, he said. Li noted that China now has the world's second-largest railway network with the longest mileage of high-speed rail lines.
The basketball superstar signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal reportedly worth US$48.5 million. It takes the fourth-leading scorer in NBA history to his 20th season with the Lakers. He says it will probably be his final contract. Bryant, 35, has not played this season, while recovering from surgery on a torn Achilles tendon. It is hoped he will be back for the Christmas Day showdown with the Miami Heat.
