The German chancellor postponed official appointments after it emerged that she had broken her pelvis in a cross-country skiing accident. Merkel fell while skiing over the Christmas holiday. What she first thought was heavy bruising turned out to be a partial fracture, meaning she must take it easy for three weeks and work from home where possible.
Happy Valley and Tuen Mun football clubs
Four soccer games scheduled for this month involving the two clubs were postponed, pending the outcome of a match-fixing investigation. The Tuen Mun Sports Association has also deregistered 11 players because of financial difficulties.
JPMorgan Chase and Co
The financial services giant was ordered to pay a US$1.7 billion fine to settle charges that it failed to report suspicious activity relating to Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme. The bank had violated laws requiring that it monitor customer activity for money laundering in the Madoff case, authorities said.
