Li Wei-ling discusses controversial sacking
Sacked Commercial Radio talk show host Li Wei-ling appears on a programme hosted by the DBC digital radio station. She will take questions on the circumstances of her sacking and her very public dispute with Commercial Radio chief adviser Stephen Chan Chi-wan. She will appear on the programme Teacup in a Storm, which was once hosted by Albert Cheng King-hon, who was himself forced out of Commercial Radio in 2004.
 
First public hearing on licence renewals
The Communications Authority is holding its first public hearing tonight on licence renewals for free-to-air television stations TVB and ATV. The meeting will be held at 7pm at the City Hall Concert Hall. The stations' licences expire in November 2015. While TVB is expected to have its licence renewed, there are questions over whether ATV will be given another chance given controversy surrounding the broadcaster over the past few years.
 
Consumer Council releases product reports
The Consumer Council holds a press conference to announce the results of its latest studies into consumer issues. The council focuses on a number of consumer products, pointing out safety or other problems that have arisen. The results of its studies are published in its magazine Choice.
 
UN rights body releases North Korea report
The United Nations' Human Rights Council today releases a report into human rights conditions in North Korea, with particular emphasis on prison camps, torture, arbitrary detention, discrimination, freedom of expression, the right to life, freedom of movement and enforced disappearances, including the abduction of nationals of other states such as Japan. The council earlier heard testimony from former victims of abuse. North Korea did not co-operate with the inquiry.
 
Ban starts for South Korean credit card firms
The South Korean credit card companies KB Kookmin, NH Nonghyup and Lotte Card are banned from today from conducting any business operations over the massive theft of sensitive customer information. More than 20 million customers were affected. The ban covers taking on new customers, issuing card loans or processing cash advances. It will be in force for three months.
 
Brooks, Coulson defence opens in London
Defence lawyers open their case in the phone-hacking conspiracy trial of seven accused, including former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks and former News of the World editor Andy Coulson. The defence case is likely to last three months, with the jury expected to retire to consider a verdict in mid-May. The trial, involving allegations of phone-hacking by News of the World journalists, started in October last year.
