Labour Secretary Matthew Cheung Kin-chung is consulting the Labour Advisory Board on ways to relax vetting procedures for the supplementary labour scheme, which governs labour imports. The government says some industries, including construction, have a pressing need for manpower. However, unions are wary of any relaxation, even though the government is insisting that the interests of local workers will not be affected.
The Town Planning Board is holding a closed-door discussion on a rezoning application for the former Lee Wai Lee vocational education campus in Kowloon Tong. It earlier held public consultation sessions with interested parties. Baptist University opposes a government proposal to rezone part of the site for housing, saying it needs the entire area for a Chinese medicine teaching hospital and a student hostel.
