After a fierce campaign Indonesians will choose between Joko Widodo, the governor of Jakarta, who is considered the anti-establishment candidate, and Prabowo Subianto, a former army general who is portraying himself as a strong leader. It will be the third direct election for world's fourth-most populous country since the end of autocrat Suharto's rein in 1998.
Beijing is due to release official economic data for June, following a month in which mainland inflation grew at its most rapid rate in four months. The consumer price index, which measures changes in consumer goods and therefore tracks inflation, showed growth of 2.5 per cent for May. The producer price index is also due out today, showing the wholesale prices of finished goods. Overall, mainland inflation has been considered remarkably low compared to the rate of its economic expansion in recent years.
