The Indonesian Election Commission is set to declare the result of the country's presidential election held on July 9. The poll pitted former Jakarta governor Joko Widodo against former general Prabowo Subianto. Unofficial counts by eight polling agencies gave victory to Widodo. There have been allegations of voting irregularities, which may prompt the loser to challenge the result in the country's constitutional court - despite appeals for him to accept the result.
Thailand's military government holds a large-scale event aimed at national reconciliation. The four-day event is being held in Bangkok's Sabnam Luang Park. It is the latest bid by the junta to win public support for its May 22 coup, which was aimed at restoring "the rule of law" after several months of political conflict. Many Western countries condemned the move. However, Asian countries, including China, expressed sympathy with the junta.
