Indonesian poll result to be declared
The Indonesian Election Commission is set to declare the result of the country's presidential election held on July 9. The poll pitted former Jakarta governor Joko Widodo against former general Prabowo Subianto. Unofficial counts by eight polling agencies gave victory to Widodo. There have been allegations of voting irregularities, which may prompt the loser to challenge the result in the country's constitutional court - despite appeals for him to accept the result.
 
Thai military junta holds unity event
Thailand's military government holds a large-scale event aimed at national reconciliation. The four-day event is being held in Bangkok's Sabnam Luang Park. It is the latest bid by the junta to win public support for its May 22 coup, which was aimed at restoring "the rule of law" after several months of political conflict. Many Western countries condemned the move. However, Asian countries, including China, expressed sympathy with the junta.
 
Singaporean match-fixer faces jail
A court in Singapore sentences businessman Eric Ding Si Yang for offering prostitution services to three Lebanese referees in return for fixing soccer matches. He could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to S$300,000 (HK$1.87 million). The referees were arrested in April last year and sentenced to between three and six months in jail. One of the referees testified against Ding. The other two refused to return to Singapore.
 
Report released on gender diversity
Not-for-profit organisation Community Business releases a report in Hong Kong on the role of women in the workplace in Asia. It is the third edition of the report, which tracks and assesses the representation of women at various levels in multinational companies in six markets - mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. The lead sponsor is Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
 
European foreign ministers discuss Ukraine
The European Union's Foreign Affairs Council meets to discuss the crisis in Ukraine. This has become particularly urgent after the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in an area of eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Russian separatists. Participants are likely to call for a full investigation into the downing of the Boeing 777. The meeting is chaired by EU foreign affairs head Catherine Ashton.
 
Press conference on Ani-com fair
The organisers of the annual Hong Kong Ani-com and Games fair hold a press conference to announce what is coming up in the five-day event, which starts at the Convention Centre on Friday. There is always a strong following for the fair, which features a treasure trove of limited edition comics, figures and other collectibles.
