Ministers from the 21 members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum start a two-day meeting in Beijing. The session comes ahead of the leaders' meeting on Monday and Tuesday. Among prominent ministers attending is US Secretary of State John Kerry. Commerce and Economic Development Secretary Greg So Kam-leung represents Hong Kong. They will discuss the way forward for Apec, including the strengthening of economic integration.
The pro-government group Silent Majority for Hong Kong, which is led by Robert Chow Yung, holds a symposium on public order and safety as well as policing. The group was formed to counter the Occupy Central movement, which has blocked roads in Admiralty, Causeway Bay and Mong Kok. Chow is also a leader of the Alliance for Peace and Democracy, which recently collected 1.8 million signatures in support of the police in their efforts to control Occupy.
