The Irish-born artist won Britain's prestigious Turner Prize for an "essay film" in which he draws on sources including African art, the Irish Republican Army, dance and Marxism. The annual award for contemporary art was presented to Campbell in a televised ceremony at the Tate Britain, which oversees the often controversial prize. The winner gets £25,000 (HK$304,000). Campbell is known for art works that address power structures in modern Britain and Ireland.

The Chinese-American couple left the Gulf nation of Qatar after being cleared of charges in the death of their adopted eight-year-old daughter, ending a nearly two-year legal saga they contend was rooted in confusion over cross-cultural adoption. The Huangs caught international attention after they were arrested in January last year on murder charges following the death of their Ghana-born daughter, Gloria. They spent nearly a year behind bars before an appeals court overturned all charges against them. Prosecutors had raised suspicions the children were part of a human-trafficking ring.
