Authority must keep waterfront green
I think it is necessary for a statutory harbour authority, which will be able to plan, design and manage the waterfront, to be established in Hong Kong.

I think it is necessary for a statutory harbour authority, which will be able to plan, design and manage the waterfront, to be established in Hong Kong.
This is especially important given that Tsim Sha Tsui, Kai Tak and the waterfront along the northern shore of Hong Kong Island "will be the first areas" that the proposed authority will revamp ("Facelift for 3 harbourfront areas", January 18).
A beautified harbourfront is extremely important for Hong Kong. It must be an integral part of our tourism development strategy as these revamped locations will become tourist landmarks and stimulate the economy.
In his maiden policy address, Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying talked about turning the "former runway tip" of the old airport into a "Kai Tak Fantasy".
He described recreation facilities and "edutainment" reflecting Kai Tak's "unique aviation, maritime and transportation history".
It is important that the harbourfront is made more vibrant and pedestrian-friendly, so that it can become another destination for Hongkongers wanting to relax at weekends and on public holidays.
