With the global food industry under pressure to double its animal protein production by 2050 for a projected world population of 9.6 billion people, Belgian animal nutrition specialist Nuscience Group plays a crucial role in innovating solutions for food security, safety and sustainability.

More than half of the future global population will be coming from Asia-Pacific – a region that Nuscience foresaw would reshape the animal husbandry landscape when it began its operations in China more than 20 years ago. A comprehensive manufacturer of high-quality products for swine, poultry and cattle nutrition with 13 production facilities all over the world, Nuscience is taking its Asian expansion a step further. The company hopes to double its turnover over the next few years through strategic acquisitions and new distributorship in Southeast Asia’s emerging markets.

Targeting high growth areas and prioritising innovation are essential to the company’s success. “Having the foresight to move into high growth areas entails risk, but that’s how we were able to acquire the portfolio of companies we have today,” says CEO Johan De Schepper. “Without innovation, you can’t find solutions for sustainable growth or efficiency – and we really want to be at the forefront of innovative solutions.”

Offering the latest scientifically tested breakthroughs in animal nutrition guided by animal physiology and market needs, Nuscience – a contraction of “nutrition” and “science” – develops products that reduce the need for antibiotics as growth promoters and efficiently optimise raw materials.

The company’s commitment to innovation is clearly reflected in its two core product lines. Nutrition4U is a range of customer-tailored vitamin and mineral premixes and protein concentrates that help boost young animal nutrition. Health4U offers cutting-edge additives and functional feed ingredients that play a major role in improving livestock health, well-being and overall performance.

“All our products follow the same quality standards built upon a policy that tracks and traces every component we bring to the market,” De Schepper says. “Our people in China have the same tools, instructions and procedures as our people in Europe. We know every component’s origin, quality, certification of quality, how and when it’s used in a certain product mix and when it’s shipped to the customer.”

Nuscience seeks partnerships with like-minded companies and feed manufacturers from Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Myanmar. The company began its Southeast Asian expansion last year when it opened its first regional office in Singapore.

“We’re an internationally oriented company with practical solutions for markets that can help make them more sustainable and efficient in feed conversion,” De Schepper says. “We are open to different cultures and effectively seek out common ground to see if we can take our ventures there one step further.”
