NMT Group, a leading specialist in roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) logistics, is taking bigger strides in expanding its global network. With the establishment of a full-fledged office in Shanghai in May this year, the company is eyeing mainland China to be the centre of its growing international operations.
“We are looking at exciting possibilities with NMT China,” says Frits Dix, CEO of NMT Group. “We are now able to do much more on the mainland, where we have built up a serious client base in the last five years. We hope to bring the country into a central role in Asia.”
Specialising on shipping all types of vehicles from cars to earth-moving equipment and even static cargo using mafi trailers, NMT Group is exploring opportunities in mainland China’s huge domestic market.
The company is particularly planning to put up additional offices over the next three years in key locations such as Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Beijing to serve the hinterlands near these areas. To this end, NMT Group plans to tap local manpower to be able to communicate better with people in the countryside. Beyond mainland China, the company eyes further expansion into Southeast Asia, especially in countries such as Vietnam and Myanmar.
The growth of NMT has been phenomenal since Dix started the business as a one-man team in 1999. Today, the group has more than 30 dedicated offices strategically located across the globe and representations in more than 50 countries. Headquartered in the Netherlands, NMT Group has divided its global operations into four regions comprising the Americas, Europe and Africa, the Middle East, and Far East and Oceania.
Looking forward, the company continues to focus on expanding its network worldwide. Over the last five years alone, NMT Group has opened seven new offices in cities such as Jeddah, Marseilles and Cochabamba. The company complements its own global reach with help from partner carriers such as Eukor Car Carriers, Mitsui OSK Lines and “K” Line.
“The expansive geographical coverage lends us the flexibility that allows us to service even the most difficult destinations,” Dix says. “Our ‘switched on’ mentality across our worldwide network similarly enables us to serve clients with optimal speed at competitive prices.”
NMT Group’s huge following, however, is not only because of its global reach. With more than 30 years of experience in RoRo shipping, the company has built a reputation in the industry for excellent service.
“We deliver premium performance regardless of client size,” Dix says. “If a customer comes to us to ship one used car, we give him exactly the same special treatment as a client who wants to ship 1,000 new trucks.”
NMT Group stands as a one-stop shop and holds total control over the entire shipping process. The company handles all documentation, bills of lading, and delegates its own port captain and support staff in every loading port.
NMT Group is likewise able to address market demands without delay as it remains an independent and private enterprise. The company, for instance, was able to adjust smoothly to drastic changes in the ports of origin and destination of manufactured vehicles arising from variations in the global supply chain.
“We want to be the best global partner in RoRo shipping,” Dix says. “This is the first thing that we want companies to think of when they hear about the NMT Group.”
