The Hong Kong crime thriller Cold War 2 has become the all-time highest-grossing Chinese-language film at the Hong Kong box office over the weekend, having taken in almost HK$62.5 million during its first 24 days in cinemas, according to figures released by the Hong Kong Motion Picture Industry Association.
A sequel to Cold War – the most profitable Hong Kong film in 2012 and the winner of nine prizes at the Hong Kong Film Awards – the star-studded new film has received mixed reviews from audiences, with some bemoaning the tactic by distributor Edko Films to flood the Broadway cinema circuit – which the company also operates – with screenings of the title.
