My Top 5 places in Macau: boxer Rex Tso

Hong Kong’s top professional boxer, Rex Tso, discovers the delights of Macau beyond the ring

Rebecca Wong

Nicknamed “The Wonder Kid”, Rex Tso Sing-yu took the superflyweight boxing world by storm with his first professional bout in 2011, and so far he has recorded 19 wins with 12 knockouts. The 27-year-old undefeated WBO Asia-Pacific champion signed a two-year contract with reputable promoter Top Rank last March, and is going to pursue his first world title – WBA superflyweight champion – in the near future.

1. I love to go to Bene at Sheraton Macao for its brunch buffet the day after the fight, to pamper myself and savour lobster and barbecued meat.

2. When I travel with friends and family, I visit Rua de Cinco de Outubro and Rua do Cunha, for they are packed with local colour.

3. The Portuguese egg tarts at Lord Stow’s Bakery are the best souvenirs – you can’t find tarts as delectable as these elsewhere.

4. I haven’t had the chance to watch the Grand Prix yet, but it is the No 1 event in Macau I would like to join.

5. My boxing career officially began at Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena, and so far I have fought eight times there. It gives me the feeling of intimacy and professionalism.
