People might not immediately think of Macau when they are looking for a fine-dining experience. The city, in fact, is home to some of the finest and swankiest restaurants in the region. At Wynn Macau, four multi-award winning restaurants – Golden Flower, Wing Lei, Mizumi and Ristorane Il Teatro – are introducing new Chef Specialty set menus, showcasing some of their signature dishes.

The Chef Specialty menus, available until May 31, celebrate the hotel’s being the only resort in the world to have received eight Five-Star awards from Forbes Travel Guide. It has also received numerous other accolades, such as Michelin stars and recommendations for its quality fine-dining cuisines.

Let’s take a look at what’s available on the Chef Specialty set menus at these restaurants.

Golden Flower

With its two Michelin-stars, the Golden Flower was recently named one of the top 20 restaurants in Macau by SCMP’s 100 Top Tables 2017 – A CEO’s Dining Guide. It is famous for its authentic and exquisite Tan delicacies, a school of traditional Chinese cuisine developed by Qing Dynasty official Tan Zongjun. The special set menu has eight dishes, and starts with three dainty appetisers – Beijing roasted pork, spiced braised yellow croaker, and the sweet and sour cabbage roll with mango in chilli vinaigrette. The braised three treasures in supreme chicken broth – prepared with fish maw, abalone, Matsutake and the restaurant’s well-known chicken soup base – is savoury and sumptuous. It is so balanced that you can still appreciate the original flavour of each ingredient. The main dish – Golden Flower tea smoked chicken (iron Buddha and jasmine tea leaves are used to cook the chicken) – is tender and juicy, with a nice smoked flavour.

Wing Lei

The hotel’s other Chinese restaurant – Wing Lei, which has one Michelin star – has a six-dish set menu which starts with tea smoked goose terrine with sliced Beijing duck and dried plum. The steamed cod fish roll with crabmeat, crab roe and egg white is silky smooth, with a pleasantly sweet and briny taste. The Chinese style surf and turf, crispy sliced beef and fresh scallop with minced salty fish, is delicious and satisfying. The braised lobster with French blue foot mushroom and Inaniwa noodles is scrumptious – the udon noodles absorb the essence of the lobster and bring out the subtle flavour of the blue foot mushroom.

Mizumi

Featuring three counters serving specific Japanese delicacies – sashimi and sushi, tempura, and teppanyaki, this two Michelin star Japanese restaurant offers authentic kyodo cuisine with fresh seasonal ingredients from Japan and around the world. The three-course Japanese gourmet journey begins with Toyama yellowtail sashimi, Iwate scallop and Hokkaido smoked salmon. Then there are five different kinds of sushi, including the Amori toro and delectable Hokkaido sea urchin. Next is the tempura, made with Nagasaki prawns, akita mushroom and Chiba red radish. The teppanyaki black angus tenderloin from the US will satisfy any meat lover. And finally, diners can wrap up the meal with a slice of super fruity and watery Shizuoka melon.

Ristorante Il Teatro

Overlooking the hotel’s iconic water fountain, Michelin-recommended Italian restaurant Il Teatro presents a five-course special menu in graceful surroundings. Starting with salad Caprese, the soft and creamy burrata cheese goes well with the fruity Firenze cherry tomatoes, basil, aged balsamic and extra virgin olive oil. The Capesante, a signature dish (Hokkaido scallops, porcini mushrooms, Parmigiano Reggiano, brown butter and sherry vinaigrette), is perfectly cooked, fresh and delightful. The Tiramisu – with smooth mascarpone, expresso jelly and crunchy biscotti thins – is an indulgence.

As a further temptation, these special set menus each offer a wine-pairing option, with dishes paired with specific wine chosen by the restaurants’ sommeliers.
