North Korea has the most slaves per capita in Asia. But the Global Slavery Index (GSI) shows the problem is spread across the region. Asia accounts for two thirds of the world’s 45 million modern-day slaves, according to the index, which defines slavery as “exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, abuse of power or deception”.
