Michael Kors shows 2013 resort wear line
With the cold weather on its way, thoughts are turning to warm beaches and sun-dappled cabanas. It was in that same spirit of luxurious escape that Michael Kors previewed his 2013 resort wear runway collection.
The new clothes and accessories were split between two rooms at The Space in Sheung Wan on Tuesday night. In the first room was the American designer's high-end runway collection, and in the second his more accessible Michael by Michael Kors line.
Understandably, celebrity guests such as Kathy Chow Hoi-mei, Jocelyn Luko and Veronica Lam congregated in the first room. The collection, apparently inspired by a recent trip to Turkey, was full of bright colours and ultra-luxury materials. Perhaps in homage to the traditional Levantine use of precious metals, gold elements featured prominently. Many of the outfits made use of chunky crystals, a nod to Kors' reputation for glitz and glamour.
The highlight of the collection was undoubtedly the pair of python skin trench coats in bright green and electric blue. This was certainly decadent, but begged the question: exactly what kind of resorts does Kors visit?
Celebrity stylist Celia Wong was impressed. "The main collection is very sophisticated and, this season, mixed with the gold element, it's very edgy," she said. "The large stones are very eye-catching, very luxury, very cool."
