As the autumn chill creeps into the air, opening a resort wear and bikini boutique might not seem the best timed thing to do. However, Maria Ines Delgado-Prieto thought otherwise.
The owner of Manila fashion boutique Itsie-bitsie opened her first overseas store in Hong Kong's Repulse Bay on October 26.
The store sells bikinis, cover-ups and resort wear and apart from casual wear offers wares from offbeat brands such as Vix, Joie and Mara Hoffman.
"I envisioned the boutique as a store that has everything you would pack in a suitcase for a holiday," said the owner. "It's a vacation boutique offering everything from the sexiest swimwear to beaded caftans, tunics, silk dresses and accessories."
Opening at this time of the year made sense, she said.
"Spending a quick getaway in resorts is an all-year-round lifestyle," said Ines Delgado-Prieto, who opened the boutique in the Philippines a decade ago.
"Especially during the festive season in December, many Hong Kong people spend their holidays on the beach in the Caribbean or Thailand." Some of the owner's most noted-and-quoted friends turned out to support and picked up a few inspirational items for their next getaway, including Michael and Betty Kadoorie with their daughter Natalie, Sandra D'Auriol and Joanna Hotung.
