Tai-tais have an extra hectic social schedule with Christmas just a fortnight away. Several gathered last Sunday in the ballroom of the Island Shangri-La hotel for the annual Nutcracker Christmas Benefit to raise funds for the Hong Kong Ballet Guild.

More than 350 guests turned up to show their support, including Leigh Tung-Chou, Anne Wang-Liu, Cathy Lee Chui Chi-kay and Sharie Ross-Tse.

The Hong Kong Ballet will be performing a new version of The Nutcracker this festive season, which premieres on Friday at the Cultural Centre. Guests at the gala enjoyed an exclusive behind-the-scenes video of the creative team at work.

Artistic director Madeleine Onne and choreographer Terence Kohler shared their experience of producing the new adaptation. Principal dancer Wu Feifei and the troupe's Li Lin and Ricky Hu then performed a scene from the ballet.

About 50 children of members of the fundraiser's organising committee also took to the stage, dressed in colourful costumes, and danced alongside the professionals.

Funds raised will go to programmes to enable underprivileged youngsters to watch and enjoy ballet.
