Susanna Soo, founder of the S.Nine clothing label, has many fans in Hong Kong, and last Thursday they had reason to celebrate. S.Nine kicked off the opening of their pop-up shop in the Soho boutique Indigo with champagne and a special guest stylist and fashion blogger, Veronica Li.
Even long-time followers of S.Nine were in for a surprise when they got a glimpse of the collection that night. Despite being famous for her eveningwear and glamorous going-out looks, Soo was trying something totally different here. Since the pop-up was in Indigo, a boutique well known for its multi-brand designer denim, Soo approached the event as a collaboration between her line and high-end denim. Her pieces were more casual, more daytime friendly. "Basically I'm mixing jeans in with my clothes, adding glam to a more relaxed look. A lot of people know me more as a cocktail, eveningwear designer. I wanted to introduce something that was more easy to wear, that you could wear to brunch."
The pop-up was supposed to last until tomorrow but opening night whispers indicated a possible extension. And as the evening wore on, fashion-sage Li shared some pointed fashion advice: "Body proportion is the key. For example, there's a huge trend for skinny jeans but if you have really fat legs, I don't think it's such a good idea."
