Lara Genovese brings Accidental Death of an Anarchist to the Fringe

Lara Genovese has always loved theatre, although she studied architecture in Italy. When she came to Hong Kong in 2010 and started to take part in community theatre shows, she took the opportunity to further her "learning path".

"After 16 shows in three years, working in my spare time as a set designer, back stage, actress and producer, I thought it was time to build and create the base of something of my own. It just seemed the obvious next step."

Last month, she founded the non-profit Naiad Productions. For her, non-profit is a statement of the limited resources, time and money that would go into the productions.

Its first work is Accidental Death of an Anarchist, written by Nobel literature laureate Dario Fo. Based on a true story, the play is a farce revolving around "The Maniac", who outwits corrupt officials and starts a re-investigation into the case of a railway worker and anarchist who fell from the fourth floor of a police station during an interrogation.

"I chose this play because it looked challenging enough for a first project and, being written by an Italian and portraying my nation, it just felt right. It is very smartly written and I am enjoying every rehearsal," she said.
